[IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP's for 11-18... Time for Tinkering
Hello All,
It was a great DX season while it lasted, but recent "sunrise enhancements"
really aren't enhancing very much, and propagation seems to be shifting
to favor the "night owl" period (0800-1030 UTC). This morning the conditions
were not bad, it's just that our local sunrise doesn't match up very well
with the Asian sunset anymore (a problem we face every November).
1503 kHz did again have a threshold-level signal from a presumed JOUK
around 1445, and at 1450 on the modified ICF-2010 there was a modest carrier on
1575 kHz from the polar direction, when VOA was nulled (indicating a
possible Radio Farda).
594 kHz had a brief session of Korean music mixing with JOAK just before
1500, and 756-CNR1 was doing fairly well around 1505 (although nowhere near
October levels). In general, the band seems to in a transition to
mediocrity, even on days when solar conditions are favorable.
Thanks to the great DXing tips from John, Nick, Walt, Chuck and Bruce, this
past Asian TP season has been a very thrilling one, with the chance to
test out very large experimental tuned passive loops (and the new DSP
Ultralight radios) in actual Asian DXing. With the conditions dropping off,
however, it may be time to move on to tinkering challenges, in the hope of
creating some exciting new modified radios (and antennas) for next season.
73, Gary DeBock
