[IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP's for 11-14... One Surprise
Hello All,
Conditions seemed about average for November in the frozen back yard (next
to the 9' box loop), with the modified ICF-2010 showing good audio on the
powerhouse TP's (594, 603, 657, 738, 747, 828 and 972) but not much else.
The general band scan around 1450 showed a strong carrier on 765 kHz,
though, which is a very unusual TP frequency in Puyallup (which is close to
semi-local 770-KTTH, and all its splatter). The 765 kHz carrier was at its
strongest level of the season, and rose up to moderate audio around 1453, with
male Korean monolog talk (presumably from the MBC station HLCQ, which I've
heard at Grayland but never in Puyallup). The 765 kHz audio was gone in a
flash, and must have only showed up for the peak sunrise enhancement.
Although certainly not rare DX, it was fun to hear this Korean right next to the
770 kHz slopper.
738 kHz had its usual mix of Taiwan Fisheries and KBS around 1455, with
603 kHz also having its usual competition between HLSA and the UnID Chinese,
all at relatively good levels. A quick check of the high band around 1445
revealed 1503 khz again close to audio (have been trying for JOUK), but the
carrier fizzled out quickly.
In general the band here seemed closer to Nick's impression, with some
very decent TP signals mixed into the average Asian levels. For mid-November,
it's probably something to be thankful for :-)
