This morning was my first try at hearing TPs this season (almost my
first try ever from this location), and it looks like I picked a good
time! I dragged myself out of bed and got to the radio at 1050 UTC,
and immediately checked for audible hets - all told, I counted about
35! Nearly all were in the lower half of the band. At first glance,
at least, the strongest were 693, 747, 774, 828, 972, and 1098
(later, some others, including 702, 738, and 1134, became prominent).
First audio noted was on 693, with a female talking, but badly
mangled by CINF. Next audio was found on 828, also a female speaker.
Then, around 1115, some audio on 1134, but washed out by IBOC
(carrier frequency was 1133.995 - not close to anything in the
mwoffsets list). Then, a man talking on 747... this quickly became
the star of the morning, with audio every time I checked, until well
after local sunrise (1150 UTC) here. I have some good recordings
from this station that I'm sure could be easily understood by a
Japanese speaker. I also had some fair audio on 774, but this was
much more challenging due to stateside interference. Lastly, I had
some faint but intriguing music on 1098 at around 1150 UTC. Carrier
frequency of this one was 1098.003 - again, no mwoffsets listing...
Marshall Islands, maybe? 738 seemed promising (two strong carriers,
measured to be 737.9992 and 737.9999), but CFZM was just too strong
to get past. 702 also had strong carriers, at 701.9964 and 701.9995,
but WLW put the hurt on me.
I haven't had a chance to review my recordings for ID'able material
from the others yet, but 747, at least, is a slam dunk - my first TP,
and a new country here!
I'm taking the liberty of crossposting this to the IRCA list, to save
typing all these details again. An exciting morning!
