[IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP's for 10-26... Rained Out
Hello All,
With high motivation to check on a strange 585 kHz station playing Chinese
opera music at 1423 yesterday (mixing with NHK1 JOPG), the waterproofed 9'
and 6' PVC loops were eagerly set up in the back yard, in the middle of
steady rain. Unfortunately, the morning's TP propagation also seemed washed
out.
In general, the conditions were mediocre like yesterday, but without the
Chinese surprises on 585 and 594 kHz. There may have been a late DX peak, but
it certainly didn't show up here before 1440, when I had to dismantle the
soggy back yard listening station. The upper and middle band was anemic,
and only the low band powerhouses (594, 603, 738, 747, and 828) had much
audio. About the only exciting thing were the wind gusts, which suddenly
threatened to topple my overly ambitious 9' box loop (which was taken down in a
hurry, without incident).
"DXing is like fishing... you need to be thankful for the opportunity, even
if you don't catch anything." On a morning when weather and propagation
were equally dreary, it's nice to remember those words of wisdom from the
noted philosopher Guy Atkins.
