I DXed the 40 minutes before actual dawn with an antenna that heavily favors my Asian route to the NW (F/B up to 50 dB, measured and 18 dB of amplification) and had 33 TP audios below 1080 and 14 above. Japan seemed to be down this morning, actually while northern China was doing pretty decently. Right at dawn itself, I also heard very nice DU audio from 612 (Aussie) and 756 (Kiwi) along with 774 being both JJ and DU... all on this NW antenna.
John, there's a huge difference in my W vs S corner fed arrays, so this could indeed be the reason. I figured that as the DUs really came up nicely after 13:00, especially on the S loop that I'd use that one as the antenna of choice (along with 10 dB of attenuation to prevent overloading the Perseus). I didn't get back to the dials live until 13:25 or so, well past LSR and well into the DU enhancement. I've yet to have a good Chinese opening (963 and 1323 are 2 of my bellweather stations, both with CRI in RR and neither have shown much sign of life this season so far).

738 here had GREAT audio all in French, and no signs of cochannel this morning, and NO hum noted.

I heard 1593 pretty well a couple of days ago with CNR1.

This one has been a long-time goal. I also may have been hearing a Korean 10 kW station on 1260. This was mixing with CFRN, announcing ownership by Astral Media and running a gardening show. Since they should have been on their northern daytime pattern for an hour by my 1330 logging time, I'd say that the Wellbrook antenna was quite directional.

It is very touchy (at least so far) and I haven't been completely successful in making it switchably bi-directional, as it should be, BUT, it sure is hearing well to the northwest. More as I learn more about the antenna.
I'll be interested to hear your K9AY stories. Andy has, I believe, reconsidered whether to bother with a commercial K9AY array at Wellbrook, especially as he states that it's very touchy when it comes to terrain, grounds, etc....One of the huge reasons that I have steered away from any ground dependant antenna.
