[IRCA] PL-300WT/ G8 "Watch Battery" is Indeed a Capacitor
Hello All,
Thanks for the comments by Deane, Nick and Steve, which are all
appreciated.
It was easy to do further investigation of the mystery component providing
backup power for the clock setting in the PL-300WT/ G8 radios, since my G8
radio was still completely disassembled, awaiting more confidence on the
part of the technician for a tough reassembly job :>)
The circular "battery" is indeed a super capacitor, which was verified by
the circuit board stamping above the component ( "2C3, .22 F"). The .22F
capacitance value matches the value stamped on the component itself. This
circuit board stamping can only be observed when the radio is entirely
disassembled.
Since this capacitor should not fail in the future like a battery would,
owners should no longer be concerned about this component affecting the
future performance of their new DSP Ultralight radio(s). The G8 used for this
investigation has now been safely reassembled, and is operating normally.
Thanks again to Deane, Nick and Steve for their comments.
73, Gary
