[IRCA] The Original 6PM Perth Network - Radio Heritage Media ReleaseWestern Australia's 6PM Perth and the Whitford Network Australian AM Heritage Stations _________________________________ One of Western Australia's original radio networks is celebrated on-line at www.radioheritage.net with the release of a major new station profile in the popular Long Lost Australian Radio Stars series. 6PM began broadcasting on April 22 1937 from Fremantle and listeners enjoyed it's Willie Weeties Club and Happy Hour Club. The Whitford Network comprised 6PM Perth, 6AM Northam, 6KG Kalgoorlie and 6GE Geraldton covering large areas of Western Australia. In fact, 'a feature of the network is the Children's Sessions' such as 'Listener's of Today' and 'Buyers of Tomorrow' clearly designed to build a strong audience over the generations. Miss Noreen Leen [Margo] comperes the 'Kiddies Kommunity Koncert' on Saturday mornings from 6AM Northam and 'is in demand as a commentator at Mannequin Parades'. Other 6AM personalities you'll read more about include Neville Dawson 'keen as mustard' and 'Auntie Nell' [Nell Shortland-Jones] who is 'known from Darwin to Albany'. Kalgoorlie's 6KG has Arthur Taylor as Manager and Engineer, and 'he has been a great factor in the efficiency of the Flying Doctor Scheme'. Laurel Baker meanwhile, 'Junior Woman Announcer' is stated as 'doing a nice job and developing nicely'. At 6GE Geraldton, Phyl Robinson is both Auntie Phyl of the Children's Session and "Lorraine" of the Ladies Session. Evening announcer is Linda Marsh, 'Geraldton's leading teacher of pianoforte'. You'll enjoy reading more about these and other Western Australian radio personalities from the late 1930's and early 1940's in '6PM Perth Network' on-line now at www.radioheritage.net. A great photo of the original 6AM Breezy Bird is also there from 1934, a few years earlier than 6PM arriving on the air. Whilst there, also check out the 6IX WA Network story, the other main network in the state, and the personalities and times of early 6IX Perth, 6WB Katanning, 6MD Merredin and a brief look at 6ML Perth which merged with 6IX in WWII. All great heritage AM radio stations from Western Australia and part of the lives of several generations across the vast distances of the state. 6PM Pe
