[IRCA] Tecsun R9012 Analog Ultralight-- the Tuning Convenience Leader

Hello All,

Among those considering a purchase of one of the very inexpensive but highly
capable Chinese analog Ultralight radios, many have been hesitant to take
the plunge because of a distinct aversion to tricky thumb wheel-type tuning
(made famous by the SRF-59), especially on the high end of the AM band.
Fortunately there is an analog ultralight radio that solves this problem very well,
and still maintains a $9.95 price among several eBay vendors.

The Tecsun R9012 has an actual round tuning knob for budget-minded DXers,
providing a significant ergonomic advantage in chasing high-band stations. The
tuning is generous and wide-spaced (even on the X band), making it easy to
forget the casino-type tuning on the SRF-59 and other analog models.

When properly aligned according to the pictorial article posted on DXer. Ca.
(and the ultralightdx and odxa Yahoo group sites), the R9012 provides a
surprising amount of DXing capability for a rock-bottom price. Interested
purchasers are advised to purchase from the eBay sellers "Tquchina" and "Dpmega,"
both of whom have recently been offering black-colored R9012 models free from
the glitches discovered in early (2005) lemon-colored models. The Tecsun R911
and Kaito WRX911 models also provide similar AM performance when aligned, but
do have the ubiquitous tuning thumb wheel.
