Re: [IRCA] Old portables

Craig,

I have a Motorola Model SP225-1, 4 tubes and the antenna is in the rotating handle.  It uses one 90v B battery and a 7.5 volt A battery.

Also runs on 117 volt ac with power cord.  Has a hinged that makes opening up the radio nice.  I use it about once a year to make sure it

works.  Looks like the radio for all on the below e-bay link.

Subject: [IRCA] Old portables

With all the notes on current portables, does anyone use one of the old
tube-type portables?  I vaguely remember a tube portable.  Bright orange and
slightly bigger than the Radio Shack TRF655 classic.  I think it was made by
GE, but I'm not certain.  I was probably 10 or 11 and took it on a school
field trip to NYC.  On the way there all I could hear was the generator
whine from the bus.  It was loud enough that the teacher told me to shut it
off.

Tried Googling the description, but never did find anything remotely like
it.

I do have a Zenith Transoceanic built maybe in the early 50's.  Good shape
and I bought it at a yard sale around 1973.  It is much bigger than the
orange portable.
