[IRCA] New antenna, one new one

I walked a new wire across the frozen quarry pond next to my house (the
other side is not normally accessibile because the pond is very long and the
sides are steep). The ice was finally so solid that it's didn't creak or
wobble in any way. It's aimed NNE/NEE about 400 feet long, unterminated,
with room to grow further, since the neighbor has given permission for me to
run it farther. At the moment there's an unexpected ravine at the far end
to cross. Since I can access that end from another neighbor's property,
I'll extend it in the spring when crossing the ravine won't be so
treacherous. I'm not sure but I think I have room for another 400-500 feet
or so before reaching an active railroad line. I suspect that I may find
some 4 wheeler paths the closer I get to the tracks. I was fortunate that
the direction I choose (blindly) happened to run through some trees when I
got to the other side, so most of it is above deer height. Other than deer,
the land across the pond is private, is not accessible, and is not used for
anything. I had my eye on this land since I moved in, but the ice finally
made it possible to take action.
Very interesting that on the first try, the back end came in strong, with
WRFC and WERC obliterating normally dominant WFIR, and then after a while
the NE finally came in when WEAV popped in - not rare but not regular. The
real test will be how it does with TA's. This may require termination, not
possible yesterday due to two feet of snow and ice at the far end, and it's
a quarry debris field underneath, so termination may not be possible until I
get to the other side of that ravine.
This gives me a total of four long wires, 500 west, 200 south, 400 east
(doesn't perform very well), and now 400 NNE. If I can get around to
setting up the K9AY I think I'll be ready for some serious DXing!
