Re: [IRCA] Longwave NDB oddity (272 PFH Hudson NY)
Hi Saul,
All current information says PFH is still on 272 and YQA on 272. Remember
YQA is a Canadian beacon with +400 Hz modulation; PFH is a standard
USA-style with +/-1020 Hz modulation. You should have PFH in the clear on
271. If you're using a Drake R8 series, it's not always clear what frequency
a beacon is on since the Drake's readout doesn't tell exactly what frequency
you're tuned to in CW mode. Some Canadian beacons have a -400 Hz (lsb) ident
too, but usually it's weaker than the upper, sometimes much weaker.
73,
Steve

Subject: [IRCA] Longwave NDB oddity (272 PFH Hudson NY)
I've been chasing NDB beacons the past couple evenings (Churchill Falls
Labrador 233 UM the best of the lot tonight) and logged 272 PFH in
Hudson-Philmont NY. It is listed as 272, but I have a strong semi-local
pest YQA in nearby Muskoka on 272. I first heard PFH on 270 using CW mode,
then had it best on 271 in LSB, and in each of those two cases there was
no QRM from YQA, even though they supposedly share the same frequency. YQA
was as strong as normal when I checked 272. PFH is listed as 272. Is it
possible it has moved channels?
