Hi Patrick
I generally use small loops with the ALA100, on the order of maybe 15 feet circumference or perimeter, because it can overload (not badly; I'm being a purist) with CFAX breathing down my neck. This may not be an optimum size for longwave, though it still does very well with the FE Russian broadcasters, and is quieter than other antennas. But it didn't really work for the longwave Euros. You should be able to use a full size loop where you are. I've yet to try raising them from ground level to a height like Walt did to see if it improves response to overseas signals
They recommend a 20m (65 feet) circumference loop, but it could be a delta or a rectangle.
