Re: [IRCA] ICOM IC-7000
Craig,
I have no first hand knowledge of the IC-7000 as a medium wave receiver but I can tell you its receiver performance on the amateur bands is not very highly rated. There are a couple of interesting presentations on Rob Sherwoods page: (1) showing it has amongst the lowest rated close spaced dynamic range of any receiver (note it is very close to the bottom of the list) and (2) Rob refers to an agc problem which intensifies QRN. The poor numbers for close space dynamic range is a problem for weak signal reception in the presence of very strong signals which is often encountered in amateur radio contesting and DXing. This is not a good radio in that application but would be less of a problem on the broadcast band. But the QRN problem looks much more serious. Check out his web site at:

Hope this gives you something to think about. My impression is a 7000 is more about size and features than it is about performance.
Tom

Subject: ICOM IC-7000
Has anyone used the ICOM IC-7000 for BCB DX? I'm thinking of replacing the
Palstar R30CC in my truck with something that will give me access to the ham
bands. But, stellar MW reception capability is key. I like the ICOM as it
appears very versatile, and the few mentions of MW use on reviews in places
like eham seem positive. I would like the opinion of someone who is doing a
fair bit of BCB DX though.
Thoughts? Know anyone who has one of these?
