At 0010 on 17 November 2008, I am monitoring 540Kc. I hear nice music of
a jazz (sort of) piano.
There is a break in the music, and the announcement, "This is CBC radio
one."
As we all know, Canada will not give there call letters but once in a
blus moon, or never.
How does a person determine which station it is?
540 CBT GRAND FALLS NL 10000 10000 NDA VARIETY CBC RADIO ONE
540 CBK REGINA SK 50000 50000 NDA VARIETY CBC RADIO ONE
These are the only stations that I can find listed that are CBC radio one
Two ways:
First, CBC delays its programming across time zones, so if you can
figure out what show you're listening to, compare it to CBC's on-line
schedule to determine whether you're hearing the Newfoundland schedule
(CBT) or the Central schedule (CBK).
CBC.ca/radio shows "what's on now" in each time zone. It's showing "CBC
Radio Overnight" (which is international news/talk programming) in
Newfoundland and "The Tonic" (which is a jazz show) in Central, so we
can safely assume you have CBK, not CBT.
Second way: while there's no local top-hour announcement, there IS a
local break for weather after the hourly news, usually at about :06
after the hour. In addition to weather forecasts that mention local
cities, there's usually a local ID without calls (eg, "You're listening
to CBC Radio One, 540 in Saskatchewan.")
CBC also streams each of its main local stations, so you can compare
streaming audio to what you're hearing.
