Well, things mighta been "Ho-Hum" in Victoria, but just 20 miles NE
(with a clear look up the Gulf of Georgia) things were HOPPING. In
fact, it was the first morning that there was more DX than I could
handle, live.... and I caught myself considering joining the Dark
Side with a Perseus recorder.
Here, things seem to be well into mid-season, with the Chinese and
Koreans doing better than the Japanese.... that seems to be a
seasonal pattern here.
I note that Walt was hearing DU on 612 this AM... I believe around
1350.... Well, I was on the same freq then and as late as 1410 and it
was all NHK1, JOLK, here.
There was Chinese all over the bottom half of the dial, including
two, again on 1062 and a scad of CNR1 //s... 540//629//756//945//1377
at least.
The star of the morning was 675 Vietnam at a 9 at 1346 and still
walking pretty tall after 1400.
Other areas of interest..... 837 was doing well at 1415, but I heard
no IDs... Still hoping to hear the new one in Fujian Province. Also,
there was a Chinese, not //918, CNR2, over the local religious
broadcaster on 630. Would love to know who that was in Beijing dialect.
I spent most of my time on 540 and 675.... for an initial report to
CNR1 on 540 and a fourth or fifth report to VOV on 675. I'm reminded
of Tropical Bander Kevin Atkins' eight year old son who sincerely
believed that Kev's hobby was sending dollar bills to stations in Peru.
I believe that Chuck Hutton has a new Perseus, so he is likely to
fill it full when he hits the Grayland Motel this weekend.
