Noticed in the latest SDXM that my closest local when I was a
youngster-KAYL-Storm Lake IA-has switched format to (of all things)
Spanish Language.............For most of my younger years KAYL was one
of 3 N.W. Iowa stations (outside of Sioux City) that covered all of N.W.
Iowa. The others being KICD Spencer & KVFD Fort Dodge, both
graveyarders. KCIM in Carroll came on in 1950 & Cherokee & LeMars a few
years later.
What makes it so stunning is that back in the 40s & 50s the closest
person to Storm Lake that spoke Spanish was probably a good 1000 miles
away. Yes, I think the world definitely is speeding up!!!
