[IRCA] MY FIRST TP!

At 0630 PDT on 09/15/2008, I captured my first TP: JOUB, 774 Akita, Japan using my Guy Atkins hotrodded Eton E100 with CFJ455K5 Murata filter and a Stormwise 16.8" X 1.0" ferrite rod antenna, all mounted on a Slik brand tripod.

The Stormwise has a sliding coil arrangement, pioneered by Gary DeBock, and is a big reason why the big Stormwise rod works so well. Per Guy, ?The sliding coil allows you to peak the DX on the frequency, not only improving sensitivity but adding "Q" right around the tuned frequency which reduces the possibility of overload. In an urban area like Seattle, some offset adjustment of the coil helps immensely with eliminating overload on problem frequencies.?

I live in Monmouth, OR, and the distance from here to Akita is 4,292 miles. I could not have accomplished this first big one without Guy's help. Not only in his excellent craftsmanship of the modded E100 mated to the Stormwise, but also his support and DXing tips along the way..

Now, if anyone out there knows how I can contact JOUB for my QSL card? Even if I never ask for another, I'd like this one, for sure.
