I DXed from 1255 to 1350 with LSR about 1335....
As reported by the majority of others, conditions were down here a
bit this morning, but with quite a few interesting ones... Many more
than usual low NHK1 outlets were present again and then several other
interesting Japanese: 891 NHK1 Sendai is fairly rare here on Orcas,
as is JOLB, NHK2, Fukuoka on 1017. On toward dawn, the CNR KK Service
was back as dominant on 1017, but JOLB was there for 2/3 of the
morning. The most interesting JJ, tho, was 909, JOCB NHK2
Nagoya. This one is not common at Grayland and was never before
heard here. JOAR, Nagoya was by itself on 1053 this morning, too, and
1098 had a bit of the Marshalls Open Carrier but was mostly one of
the Japanese commercial stations. No ID heard, unfortunately.
There were several Chinese dominant right before dawn, with 918
Shandong being good enough to have their multi-transmitter echo going
for the first time this year.
The gem of the morning, tho', was 5TAB, Adelaide which was in at a 7
level from dawn until about 1350 (wow!) That station has largely
eluded me, though most other Graylanders have heard it several
times. I finally got it well enough to send a solid report this
morning.... 20 minutes worth of pops and Oldies + at least one
ID. The last song I heard was the Beach Boys "Good Vibrations!" YOU BETCHA!
Well, I'll have one more morning of DXing here and then we climb
aboard the Big Silver Bird and head to Peru. with a stop over in
Atlanta on the way. If the security situation is OK, I'll be DXing
just two mornings on this trip, both on the North Coast... the
morning of the 14th from Chiclayo and the morning of the 16th from
nearby Trujillo. I'm very restricted as to weight, so I'm taking a
hotrodded E100 and a Kaito 1103, modified so that MW can access an
outside antenna. The only antenna will be a 400 foot BOG.
Looking at an Azi-Equi map centered on Peru, I think that I'll
concentrate on New Zealand and Australia.... New Zealand and the East
Coast of Australia are sort of spread across the southwestern horizon
from Peru.... No wonder the DU DXers hear Peru well.
If the local banditos who prey on tourists are still active on the
North Coast as they were a couple of years ago, I may just hang out
in the hotel bar and listen to Andean flute music on the FM section
of the E100... and drink Inka Cola :>)
More tomorrow AM
