[IRCA] ballpark songs in public domain (was Re: Skywave noise)

"Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and "God Bless America" are in the public domain, the copyrights have long since expired (if there were any to begin with), so there would be no royalties on those songs. Scott already addressed the status of other songs played at ballgames.

God Bless America was written in 1942, so it is possibly still copyright protected, even if Irving Berlin is no longer alive.

The Star Spangled Banner is in the public domain, unless a great-great-great-grandchild of Francis Scott Key attempts to claim copyright for the lyrics. The composer of the virtually un-singable melody (originally an 18th century drinking song, Anacreon in Heaven) is unknown. I doubt that O Canada, God Save the Queen, La Marseillaise, Advance Australia Fair, or any other country's national anthem is copyright protected.
