[IRCA] QCI report: TP's for 08-19-08 a bit of everything!
Well fellas, here's my report. It's not complete, but just a taste of what's happening up here on the Queen Charlottes. We're being buffeted by 90 kph winds and rain today. Yesterday was nice in comparison...glad I washed the windows of the cottage! Unfortunately, stayed up late (around 1:45 am) trying to figure out why my timer recorder function on Perseus wasn't working. Darn it! Well, got it going just fine and left the rest of the night to record the TOH for a 800 kHz segment. While I was at it, I didn't notice much from Tonga ...just a spike on the spectrum but no audio noted. Slept in 'til 12:50 and was at the dials by 12:56. Usual audio on just about every channel starting from 531 with NHK1 and a weaker cochannel. // on 540, and 549 too. The latter yielded a stronger Mayak, over NHK1. Radio Rossii also noted on 621 and another Russian on 576. Of course VOR KK was on 648, but there's also someone else on the lower end...around 647.89. Who? Filipinos were abundant with 612, for example starting with NHK1, and then fading away to yield a Filipino at 13:12 ?DYHP?. Strong with news at 13:14, and then into sports at 13:15. When rechecked at 13:22, back to NHK1 dominating....should be fun to listen to the Perseus recordings!
Another Filipino was very strong on 666 at 13:36. DZRH?
630 had someone....I'm at the Haida Rose Cafe, so I don't have access to my PAL. Is there an Australian here? Came in very nicely somewhere around 13:30 with Olympic coverage. In fact the Aussies were well represented on the X-band with audio on 1701.06, 1683.3, 1665, 1638. Also some weak audio on 1656.....nothing in PAL. Who could this be? Several more DUs on the top of the band...ie 1548 at 13:58, but by this time, mostly faded away.
1566 interesting, with HLAZ of course, but another station on 1566.1 or so, especially later when HLAZ began to fade away. ?who?
1458 a Filipino at 14:05.
1737 KUT at fair to good level. Noticed a JJ fisherman net on 1738.4 at 13:26.
Nothing at all on 2368.5
Flash: KXLJ is testing!!! First noted on 1330 with an OC at 14:45. Then a brief string of numbers and then nothing....got the TR going. Nothing further until 15:01 UTC with a "KXLJ 1530" ID. That's it and then OC again. No tones or anything. Modulation didn't sound very good, by the way. I'll check the hour or so of recording to see if anything else came up.
Overall, a bit of everything this morning: Japanese (not particularly strong), a few KK, some CC (best was 1593 with CNR1 olympic coverage //5030), a good number of Filipino stations, and Russian as well. A reasonable DU appearance too, and of course KXLJ 1330 heard for the first time. All in all, not a bad morning, although quite abbreviated. Plenty of wav files to check too. Cheers to my friends down south! I'm looking forward to reading John's Grayland report!
