Re: [IRCA] TPs July 20 from Orcas Island: Average to Good

Hello John,

Like Walt, I didn't really get back into TP DXing until last year, so
don't have much reference for judging the strength of the Kiwis.

Recently during several short trips to Grayland, however, I was
surprised at how the 567 and 657 Kiwis would almost always show up with weak audio,
even on the miserable mornings when the Aussies were only weak carriers.
During seven short trips, there was only one morning that the 567 and 657 Kiwis
didn't show up with some kind of audio on the hot-rodded 2010's (the morning
with Guy). The propagation for the Aussies and Kiwis seemed quite different
at times.

On the other hand, on the great mornings like July 9th, the Kiwis never
really boomed in like the Aussies did. That's probably the reason why they
never could be heard on stock Ultralights like the SRF-T615, or the modified
SRF-39FP. Only the modified 2010's and modified E100 have been able to
receive them as stand-alone portables.

                73, Gary .
