The deadline to move of CHLT-630 Sherbrooke Quebec to FM (102.1 MHz( has

to Feb 28, 2009 by the CRTC. It seems that they realized that they would
have broblems duplicating the coverage of the AM signal on FM unless
they used higher power on FM.
There's more to it than that. CHLT has applied to change its FM
frequency to 107.7 and to change to a different transmitter site to
better replicate the AM coverage. In doing so, they ran up against
Vermont Public Radio, whose WVPS 107.9 signal from Burlington has fairly
substantial listenership (and membership) in the Eastern Townships area
near Sherbrooke. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
(Disclosure: I am not a neutral observer on this one; I do some
consulting for VPR and have been working with them on this case.)
