[IRCA] Max. Groundwave Propagation Distance?

It is an interesting question and one that comes up quite often. From many south facing beaches here on Cape Cod, RVC-530 Turks & Caicos can be heard at high noon - at a distance of about 1,380 miles. Does the signal arrive entirely via groundwave or is it a combination of groundwave and daytime skywave? Good question. As someone mentioned, the late Gordon Nelson conducted scientific research on this subject in the late 1960's. Some of his results were published in DX News in an article titled "Skywave or Groundwave Reception?" I believe this article is still available from the NRC.
