Re: [IRCA] 27 Feb TPs
Hi Nick,
Great going for your "almost" logging of VOA-1575 on the barefoot
SRF-59. That kind of reception, if later repeated, would be a real thriller...
shattering the Ultralight radio record books! Next time, you may wish to try
chasing TP's with the SRF-39FP prison radio, which is a little more sensitive,
and a lot easier to tune (you may have felt like using the SRF-59's
thumbwheel, on the high end of the band around 1575, is like gambling at a casino).
The "prison radio" is much more ergonomically agreeable.
I also heard the strong het from 1575 on the "Super Prison Radio 2" (a
new, improved version of the original, with better sensitivity and nulling
ability) this morning, but our KZIZ-1560 local put out just enough splatter to
mess up the audio. 594 and 747 had traces of audio here, and the SPR2 had a
couple of hets from the DU direction around 1505, but no audio.
The technical details of the "Super Prison Radio 2," should be written
up shortly, as well as the story of the 6.25" antenna transplant into the
digital DT-200VX ultralight. For TP DXing, these tiny overachievers are a real
blast! Can't wait to take them to Grayland, or even around any ocean beach at
sunrise, hi.
73, Gary
