[IRCA] "Hot-Rodded" DT-200VX Digital ULR is a Reality

Hello All,

Following in the footsteps of its SRF-39FP "Super Prison Radio" sibling
(now fully described on dxer.ca), a Sangean DT-200VX digital Ultralight
radio also successfully received a 6.25 inch loopstick transplant from an ICF-S5
parts unit yesterday, resulting in a sensitivity boost of nuclear
proportions. The theory of "proportional replacement" (described in the SPR article)
was followed again, and a larger-proportion copy of the tiny stock 2" loopstick
was created by surgically altering the S5's coil arrangement, yielding a
"Digital Frankenstein" with sensitivity apparently fully up to the SPR/ IC-2010
level. It is rumored that this tiny terror may haunt the environs of
Grayland, and other ocean beaches this year.
Unfortunately, the mega-loopsticks from the S5 are no longer
commercially available in the USA, but they are common in Japanese parts units, as
noted in the SPR article. Further experiments are currently underway with
production ferrite bars and Litz wire, in hope of creating loopsticks approaching
the sensitivity level of this experimental unit. For ULR DXers looking for
sensitivity to compete with any portable on the planet, the concept is no
longer science fiction... it is a reality! Thanks to Rob Ross, Allen Willie,
Kevin Schanilec and the other extremely motivated ULR DXers, who have been a true
inspiration during the course of these experiments.

                                                                        73,
Gary DeBock
