I'm sure as heck enjoying my SRF-59, logged three new catches in past couple
of days from Toronto. As for comparing the ultralight to a Drake R8B, well,
I'll accept that once I've compared it to what I do have - a Sangean
porttable ATS909 and a longwire, and also the Radio Shack loop. I must say
that I am initially wowed by this thing, because it really does handle
adjacents exceptionally well. It's almost too funny to be true - the thing
looks so puny and costs so little. Any comparison for me will have to wait a
couple of weeks, till I can get to Burnt River. I am really curious as to
how it will react up there, with a relatively open band. For now, what
cracks me up is that evertime I move while listening, the reception changes
significantly. One has to stay very very still at ID time.

HOTHOT!!!!!
Hi Guys:
I have Many High End Radios.........such as the Drake R8B, NRD535D, Collins
HF2010, Collins R390A, Hammarlund SP600, Sony 2010, RCA AR88,.....and a
whole lot more. I will put my New SRF-59 up against ANY OF THEM...on the AM
BCB. I know it sounds Nuts....and it is....There is no way a Single AA
Battery should be able to suck in DX like this thing does. If I wasn't the
guy sitting here Logging it...I wouldn't believe it either!!!
In less than 2 Days....I have logged 82 Stations with this Radio. Included
in this is 6 Countries...Canada, USA, Mexico, Cuba, Turks & Caicos, and
Netherlands Antilles. Also included in these totals are 17 States and 2
Provinces.
Of the 82 Stations heard...70 of them were logged in my Basement Family
Room......8 feet below ground with the radio barefoot. Late this afternoon
I got real brave and took the Radio upstairs to ground level to see what it
would do during the late afternoon Sunset Skip period.
Well....I wasn't disappointed......I heard 12 more stations that hadn't
been logged downstairs....including 4 NEW LOGGINGS!! It has been almost 10
Years since I had 4 NEW Loggings in one sitting.....using any of my Radios
and Various Antennas....including Loops...let alone a Bare Foot Plastic
Radio the size of a deck of Cards.
The only Bad thing I can say about the SRF-59 is that work really
interferes with DX'ing.......and It doesn't have Digital Readout....Just an
Analog Dial. Sometimes you're not really sure where you are dead
on.....but I have solved that problem....I just ordered one of the Sony
SRF-615T Pocket Radios from Japan.....which Does have Digital Readout...and
from all reports I've read...is even hotter than the SRF-59!!
During tonights session I also heard many stations that were not new
loggings....but are stations I' haven't heard in a long, long time
like......830 WEEU, and 600 CKAT.
So.......the guys who have one of these are smilin.......'cause they
already know what I'm saying here. I've been converted....and again...I
have to say this is just Wacky...I don't understand how it works...I just
know it does. The Nulling capabilities of these radios is truly amazing. my
record so far is receiving 3 Different Stations on the same frequency at
the same time....simply by just turning the radio. I've done this on 2
different frequencies.....
830.......WCCO, WEEU, WCRN
680.......WPTF, CFTR, WCNN
Separating 2 Different stations is a piece of cake.
So.......enough rambling....it's just that it's been a long time since I've
had this much fun with a single AA battery! HAHAHA......
Below are the 4 New Ones I heard tonight....which brings my AM BCB Totals
to 1004 Station heard.
Don't believe me.......get one of these things and try it out for yourself.
Hearing is believing.
I haven't had a chance to try it on Sunrise DX yet........I'm sure that
will be just as good.
