Hello All,
For those wondering why Sony never made an improved ICF-2010 (or at
least continued to sell the great classic model), the answer is probably because
they were too busy responding to the ultimate challenge in modern
electronics: how to pack maximum performance into the smallest package.
The focus of intense competition not only in digital electronics but
also in RF design, micro-miniature IC development has become the ultimate
arbiter of the winners and losers in today's radio design competition.
Fortunately for AM DXers, manufacturers like Sony and Sangean have taken
this intense competition to a new level, and have developed IC's that can
literally pack the performance of a Super Radio 1 into a 3-ounce pocket radio
(except that the pocket radio will be more selective, and free from images and
birdies).
Sony's phenomenal 30-pin CXA1129N IC, the heart of the SRF-59, is
deeply praised by the Chinese PhD rocket scientist Dr. Xin Feng on his
_http://www.fixup.net_ (http://www.fixup.net) web site. Those who dismiss pocket radios
as inferior toys are in for a huge shock if they try out this radio...it is
fully capable of almost any DX task you choose to give it! Superlative IC's
have finally made the tiny pocket radio able to not only compete, but win.
Sony is not the only manufacturer who has brought incredible IC's to
the pocket AM radio. Sangean's DT-200VX is also a phenomenal performer, with
great sensitivity, selectivity, freedom from images and birdies... and
20-memory digital convenience. The intense competition between Sony and Sangean has
brought about a true revolution in pocket radio performance, and a true
revolution in Ultralight DXer fun!
If you have a little pocket change and a little spare time, why not
order one, and get in on the fun?
73 and Best Wishes,
Gary DeBock
