[IRCA] Sony SRF-59 Walkman Review Completed

Hello All,

Thanks to the IRCA members and others who have expressed interest in
the DX capabilities of the tiny Sony SRF-59 Walkman, which has sensitivity and
selectivity fully adequate for occasional TP reception, here on the west
coast.

Because of Colin Newell's original suggestion, and the generous
assistance provided by Nick Hall-Patch, a detailed 4-page review on this astonishing
little radio was completed recently, and is now posted on the excellent
dxer.ca web site. The review covers the Walkman's construction, circuitry,
performance (relative to the ICF-SW7600GR, ICF-2010 and ICF-S5W), and TP DXing
tactics (explaining the loggings of JOAK-594, JOIB-747 and HLCA-972 on this $16
radio).

A separate "Mighty Mite" comparison including the SRF-59, SRF-M37V,
Sangean DT200VX and ICF-S10Mk2 will be written shortly, and it is hoped that
such exposure will motivate other TP (and TA) DXers to give these remarkable
little radios a try.

      73 and Best Wishes,

      Gary DeBock
