In response to the posts regarding ham radio operators not QSLing
consistently. So true! Though, my more recent experiences are best with
ham operators that are in other countries, especially when QSLing 'direct'
and not via bureaus.
Postage is so much more expensive than it once was and I suppose that makes
QSLing even more of a task. I think postage was 4 cents surface mail when I
first sent reception reports out.
Furthermore, ham radio isn't as popular as it once was, with fewer young
people joining the ranks. I am 100% for Morse Code and I would have thought
that dropping Morse as a requirement to get a license would have brought in
new blood. I don't want to get going on that topic, though, since I think
dropping Morse was a BIG mistake. Ham Radio and Morse Code and kind of like
Mom and Apple Pie to me. They go together well.
I enjoy and appreciate change, however, change has affected several of my
hobbies negatively. It seems not that long ago that Monday mornings were
equivalent to paradise with respect to what might come in on the bcb. Even
with our old tube radios, Monday mornings were very often a pleasant
surprise.
