Re: [IRCA] Sony MW DX Receiver

To Joe and others:

Nick is absolutely right that the ICF-EX5 has a spurious reception
issue, which is not a major problem here in the moderate-RF environment of
Puyallup, WA, but may be for your own location.

To Nick's comments, I would also add that all of the enclosed
documentation is in Japanese, and that although Audio Cubes will keep a 1-year
warranty card on file for you, the radio must be returned to Japan for any warranty
repair or maintenance. The list of Japanese MW stations on the dial face may
be a real curiosity here in North America, but unless you are a TP DXer
dreaming of targets, it will probably be of little practical value. Finally, if
you enjoy doing alignments and/or maintenance on your radios, this is
probably not the receiver for you, as its surface-mount construction and the
absolute unavailability of a Japanese service manual make it very difficult to
maintain (as I am discovering very clearly, in attempting to reduce the spurious
reception issue).

73 and Best Wishes, Gary
