Good morning,
Things improved a lot over yesterday. But this morning was the first
morning the phaser was used completely in the circuit. Too much SF Bay
area IBOC hash without it, as it looks like KCBS-740 has turned their
IBOC back on. The first time in months tht I was getting hash on 729 &
756 khz. With the phaser, phasing out the South, China on 729 was very
nicely in the clear with no hash as well as 756. With the advent of more
Bay area signals using IBOC, using the phaser has knocked out 98% of the
hash. With the exception of 850-Tacoma and 1250 Seattle, the rest of the
IBOC is pretty much gone. Unfortunately, this also kills most of the DU
reception, unless I kick out the WNW EWE with the flip of the switch,
when I can always do anyway.
Using the phaser in the circut has brought in some interesting DX too.
JJ talk on 837, with local 840 KSWB phased. JOQK Niigata was totally
clear, which has been rare here since KSWB went AN years ago on 840.
Also EE talk on 1404 at 1430. It may have been EE/Tagalog, but uncertain
as it was pretty poor. Only audible with the phase, not on either
antenna alone. The reason I think it was EE with the interview as the
man kept saying "and a....and a." but the other person may have been
Tagalog. 1404 bears watching. One downside to using the phasing unit
with that Northerly lobe, is the Seattle 1250. Normally I notice little
IBOC hash, but increasing that lobe, I now get IBOC hash on 1260 on
CFRN, so I did not catch any JJ there this morning, but I did get bits
of it on 1350 (JOER), but not as good as the other day, with JOER on
top.
A nice TOH ID on 918 with Shandong News Station in mandarin after time
pips (which were 10-15 seconds late). The JJ powerhouses did not seem to
have the strength this morning as normal though. But overall was a bad
morning. But having that phaser in line and set for that null to the
South really knocks out most of the IBOC from CA. Also no IBOC noticed
on 936 or 963 from KTBR this was either. The phaser does introduce a bit
more noise, but it is well worth it to knock out the IBOC hash.
73,
Patrick
