Craig,
You sure hit the nail on the head. Also a couple other items can be
added to the list.
1) The average TV viewer can no longer view out of market TV signals.
THis is via Dish or Direct or cable. There are a few exceptions, like
the super stations, but the local staion has the call. There are under
the table ways around this. But basically many TV viewers cannot legally
view out of market TV stations. The local TV stations have the rights to
TV shows and they do not want you viewing these shows on a distant
signal. It looks like they want to do the same thing with radio. They
cannot really stop it like with TV as the signals on AM skip, but what
they can do is to the jam the signals with IBOC so it is hard to hear
out of market signals. Lots of radio on the Internet, but how long is
that going to last? If the powers that be want control, then they are
going to make laws that will stop streaming audio. in time I would
guess.
2) As far a recording media, in buying a DVD recorder, Sony already has
put into their decks that in many cases, extra copyguard protection. The
movie you want to copy off HBO or Showtime, you cannot record. With
Sony "Sony Pictures", etc, they are trying to stop recording of certain
things. But in many cases I have been told, regular network TV programs
can also do not record. Because of this I will never buy a Sony DVD
burner and others I know will not either.
Little by little we are losing more of our rights.
