Conditions seemed fairly southerly today, without being a real DU
morning. I did hear a few DUs.... 612, 702 and at times, 3LO was
dominating the normal JJ on 774. The upper band continued to be
rather sparse, with even the Japanese being very attenuated. There
did seem to be quite an opening to Southeast Asia, though. 675
Vietnam was the loudest that I've ever heard it... running a good
solid S-9. VOA 1575 was also strong and DZEC 1062 was doing better
than I've ever heard them here on Orcas. I invested 15 minutes in
getting a really good recording, ending with multiple IDs at 1400.
I've reported to them twice over the years with nary a reply, so, its
time to try again. 1026 was also likely a Filipino, but not in well
enough to be sure.
Mysteries of the morning:
819 was in well for a bit and I think that it may have been a
Filipino dialect. I wonder what Patrick heard?
837 was Chinese, but not the "normal" CNR 1. Likely something from
south China.
801 was probably Guam, but never got good enough to be sure.
819 the CC with REALLY bad echoes this AM... either Shandong or
CNR2. Even a native CC speaker could not have understood that mess this AM.
Even though I really don't want/need a recording SDR (no time to
demodulate later on a regular basis) I could sure have used it this
AM to sort through some of these mysteries. I'd have been hard
pressed to decide just which 190 kHz to record, though. I think that
I'll hold out for the next generation, in hopes of being able to
record at least half of the band.
Overall, so far this season, early September was marked by much more
from China than last year. Since I've gotten back from QCI, China
seems largely absent, with either the nearer Japan dominating or some
southerly mix of DU and SE Asia as this AM. WHERE ARE THE CHINESE
and RUSSIANS???
