IMHO, I would rate the SDR-1000/Flex5000's software, called PowerSDR, above
the WinRadio and RFSpace software. It has more features and configuration
options, and is constantly being improved further by the enthusiastic user
community of open source software developers. I feel that PowerSDR is much
more user-friendly for DXers than RFSpace/SpectraVue software, and and equal
or better to WinRadio in this regard. Buttons and sliders are very
convenient for adjustments such as filter bandwidth, passband tuning, etc.;
you don't need to type in numbers to change a filter bandwidth, as I believe
you do with SpectraVue.

A downside to PowerSDR: you need quite a bit more computer horsepower to
operate in 192 kHz spectrum display & recording mode, compared to the
RFSpace/SpectraVue software.

Patrick, if I were you I would consider waiting a year or so on a SDR,
especially if you want to record spectrum. Receivers that are now in the
development stages such as HPSDR's Mercury will be providing much more than
192 kHz recording ability!

The SDR-1000 is out of production now but can be bought for around $1200 
on the used market..  I haven't had mine long enough to comment on it 
but Guy Atkins seems to like his very much.  It requires an expensive 
added sound card for best performance and I'd rate the software 
somewhere between the G303/313 and the SDR-IQ.
