Dennis and Others,
The ocean coast of Washington has excellent acreage for sale, but as
usual with real estate, one should have a definite plan on how to use it (and
make sure that the local government agrees with your plan), before placing any
money down. All the local listings are available on the
_http://www.remax.com_ (http://www.remax.com) web site, making it easy to plug in any city of
interest, and get all the listings for that area.
Oceanfront lots with full city amenities (water, sewer, electric, etc)
run about 300K in Ocean Shores, and acreage near the ocean runs anywhere from
25K up to multi-millions, depending upon the amenities, or lack thereof.
There are some "unbuildable" lots which are definite bargains, for a DXer
willing to "commute" on weekends. Ocean Shores and Westport seem to be more in
demand than other areas, presumably because of their relative proximity to
Puget Sound, but the Long Beach area also is very desirable.
Probably the best advice that could be given is to avoid buying on
emotion, and make your choice only after a complete review of the property, local
government, zoning restrictions, etc. The paradox is that the best DX
locations require some degree of isolation, which is hardly the best for security
and convenience.
