Joe, kudos on the upgrade! Wish I could my interest up
in boning up on CW so I could operate. Got the equip-
ment already.

I spent $22 to change from WD9INP to WD4INP. "Vanity
Call." Ha, ha, ha, ha. What's so ¡®¶§ÐÆ¥! vain about
"WDnINP?"

Anyway, I've seen that antenna, and it's not a dipole.
At one end you see a vertical group of wires connect-
ing to the horizontal group. The vertical set served
to radiate the signal and the horizontal set was top-
loading.

Since field intensity ("signal strength" to tech grade +
slouches like me) is proportional to current on the
vertical radiator, the top loading acted as capaci-
tance to ground and caused more current to flow up the
vertical radiator. Without top loading, the R-F current
would taper off to zero at the top of the radiator.

"That's Radio R-101 for today, class. Pop quiz tomorrow."
