As the writer for RW and attending several NAB conventions, I soon found
out that the FCC is pretty much controlled by the NAB. Money talks. The
NAB is very powerfull. If the FCC would not have oked IBOC 24/7, I would
have been surprised. I guess to make it look good, they had to go
through the hurtles to say that all the interference and concerns were
looked into. As others have stated, IBOC on AM will die "if" it is not
a success. One main way to make it non successful is to not buy the
radios.
Russ, as far as getting rid of the R8, there are many other bands to
DX than just MW if needed anyway. The IRCA bulletin does cover the
Tropical Bands, so those frequencies might get more coverage in the
future.
