I have a manufactured home and a few years back, after having 1/2 of the
roof replaced after a 120 MPH wind storm, I put on a metal roof on the
house over the new shingle roof. In the house I do notice the signal to
be less than it used to be on AM and especially on FM. My DXing is not
affected as all of my antennas are fed with coax and matching
transformers from outside, but using a loop, it does make a difference.
Of course the house is well grounded, but having the metal roof does
affect things. at least here. However, I still hear JOUB 775 easily at
night on the Super Radio next to my bed and also KNOM tearing up KKOH.
One other thing, in the Summer when we do have that occasional hot day
(probably warm to most people), the heat in house is worse with the sun
beating down on the metal roof. Fortunately on the coast days above
70-75 are rare. But the roof also holds in most heat in the Winter too.
   As far as that noise I got on the Astoria/Warrenton bridge back in my
college days of the early 70s/late 60s, the whole length of the bridge,
even the open areas, I still got that squeal across the band wiping out
everything including KAST a mile away. Strange. I don't go to Astoria as
much these days as most of my lock work is in Warrenton/Seaside/Cannon
Beach, so I have not experienced it in recent years.
