Patrick, I haven't owned an R8 (except for a few days once....Nick has that one now, I think).  What I can say, is that it outperforms all of my other receivers including the Icom 756 ProII, Collins HF-2050, JRC NRD 535D, and the Harris RF-590........Walt.
