You slightly missed the point. I was writing SOLELY of daytimers being
able to sign on with full power at 0400 EST!
The single example I was able to cite (and I neglected to note that I logged
these 0400 EST daytimers sign-ons from INDIANAPOLIS) is
WYAL-1280 Scotland Neck, NC.
As fate would have it, we NOW live not far from Scotland Neck (Halifax
County). I've driven through Scotland Neck and passed WYAL. Neither
was anything to write home about.
Of those you cite, I know WMPM-1270 Smithfield (Johnston County) is
a daytimer, although a bit further away.
It seems to me that these 0400 daytimers were in the Carolinas, although
they may have been in Georgia. I remember no Virginia 0400 sign-ons.
Apparently, the FCC made some sort of determination that such sign-ons
were a good thing despite the QRM they must have caused to fulltimer
co-channel stations.
Surely there are some other Wheezing Geezers who remember these
0400 sign-ons.
Forget it, Doc Hardester! You are a mere 53!
