710 KIRO/KSPN/? Classy KIRO s/off with SSB at 0300 ET. Carrier cut
revealing relatively steady KSPN at fair level til 4. Another talker
noted which I will have to fish out; I don't think it was KFIA. I
taped it starting at 0320 and took a little nap and came back at
0358. There was a scatter popping sound on 710 which spilled over
onto adjacents. No discernable carrier with it. Anyone else get this?
I have to suspect it came from KIRO and was a part of their testing,
probably into a dummy load.
I have the Kiwa air core loop and the Palomar loop about 4 feet
apart. The Palomar brought in less interference from the electric
blanket currently surrounding my wife. Since she is recovering from
the flu, it would not have been a good time to ask her to cool it.
However, I found that by repositioning the unused Kiwa I could reduce
the QRN. Huh?
On 700, KXLX was very strong E/W (I was hoping for a dash of WLW). N/
S, KGRV, more KXLX and possibly KALL.
On 720, KDWN was poor and fluttery. WGN (unneeded) was under.
Thanks Portly Brewster for passing this on. KIRO has never been noted
off before. I was hoping KTTH-770 would be off too, but not to be.
