In the 1790s, the French Revolutionary Calendar was as close as it got to
a metric calendar (and as you probably know, the metric system itself was
a product of La Révolution). This calendar had a week of 10 days, and a
year of 10 months, with names such as Thermidor, Fructidor and Messidor.
The calendar never caught on despite the efforts of the French
revolutionary government to enforce its use with threats of the
guillotine. One of Napoleon's first acts as emperor was to abolish it and
restore the Gregorian calendar.
