(Working my way thru unread emails--a little late, but here's some info on 
your question. I too sent /10 Dexter in NC my report from last night.) So 
what you heard were non-beacon CW exchanges between two of the 500kc 
stations. Apparently I tuned in later, when /10 was back to his canned 
beacon message, at its slower speed.

Thanks for the DX report!  Last night was very productive with both 
reception
reports and QSOs.  I had about a half hour QSO with each of three stations, 
/5,
/6 and /23.  That was the initial QRS with /23, Warren K2ORS.  He is also on 
137
khz and we have QSOed on that band also.  Of course it was much easier on 
500 khz.
