If I understand correctly, using a 5 kHz tone would make the signal hearable 5 kHz above & below the carrier frequency. So, one would just tune their highly selective receiver up or down 5 kHz (to whichever frequency has least splash). Ought to make hearing all 50 states possible if most of them test. George S., MN
