Re: [IRCA] 1360/570 diplex

Dan, KKMO (the old KMO ) 1360 -- Tacoma was located on a tower in Fife -- near the Port of Tacoma -- for the better part of it's life. In the 1970's it built a 5/8's wave tower on Indian Hill -- the ridge in northeast Tacoma - Federal Way. It didn't work as well as it was hoped and KKMO moved to a new shorter tower near browns point -- on the waters edge of Indian Hill - northeast Tacoma. I don't think KKMO was ever on a boat --- like 1300 Khz. The owners of 1360 -- have a "bad taste in thier mouths" about using a very tall 5/8's wave tower -- after paying a very very large amount of cash to build a 5/8's wave tower on Indian Hill -- that is still in place -- yet not usable for 1360 Khz. The KVI tower is almost exactly the correct height for 1360 khz. However it's a self-supporting tower on the beach edge and could only be used by another -- non-directional user -- like 1360. Not someone like 1300 -- that requires a directional antenna system. A wavier --
may or may not be required by KKMO - Tacoma. KVI was first licensed to Tacoma from the very same transmitter location on Vashon Island -- near Point Heyer --. AM stations are not allocated the same way FM or TV stations are -- and may change the city of license -- a little more easyer. It fact -- good cause and reason to use "Seattle - Tacoma" now exists. KKMO moved to Indian Hill -- before a lot of rule changes. KKMO was able to use the full 5 kw -- non-directional from the 5/8's wave tower -- on Idian Hill ---- long before "class 3A - regionals" were allowed to use 50 KW. KKMO might now be able to use 10 KW or MORE from the KVI tower -- without having to even look at the city of license rules or a waiver. Vashon Island was never a real good location -- that would work for the 1300 AM. But 1360 on the KVI 570 AM tower is possible -- and very workable --- if done correctly. MTM
