Greetings....
It's been a few weeks now since our last newsletter in August, so
I'll briefly
run through some highlights. A review of the website content tells us
that you
especially like our Art of Radio series, the Long Lost Australian
Radio Stars
Series, the AFRS Pacific series, and anything to do with Vintage
Radio! So,
look out for more of all these coming up soon.
We've also been planning a nationwide radio heritage campaign in New
Zealand
for 2007. It's called 'Celebrating over 75 Years of Popular Kiwi
Radio' and
we'll release more details in a few months time. This will be the
first of
several such campaigns around the Pacific over the next five years.
Local radio
stations have a vital role to play in making this a success, and gain
lots of
good publicity!
Art of Radio (c)
The Art of Radio (c) Series is incredibly popular. Now, Art of Radio
Hawaii has
been completed and will be on-line shortly...with everything from
little grass
shacks to hula girls and palm trees..well worth visiting! George FM
in Auckland
has a great design team...and you'll find their latest print ads on
the LPFM
Blog at www.radioheritage.net. Check out the 2007 QSL Calendar from
our good
friends in Germany for more examples of great radio art from around
the world
as well. We also welcome examples of contemporary radio art from
stations
around the Pacific region to be permanently showcased on-line. Write
to us
today at info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Also see our original Art of
Radio(c) and Art
of Radio (c) Japan exhibitions on-line now.
New Campaign for 2007
'Celebrating Over 75 Years of Popular Kiwi Radio' our 2007 campaign
kicks off
with the NZ Radio Dial in 1931...the heyday of private radio...and
some great
old station logos, a review of the broadcasting scene, and a complete
list of
every AM station on air that year. This month has seen the 70th
anniversary of
1ZB Auckland, and you'll enjoy our item about popular ZB Personality
'Gran',
with photos of early 1ZB staff, and 10 Top Tips from no-nonsense
Gran....such
as how to waterproof a tent, how to stay slim, and how to bake the
best banana
cake! Who says radio history has to be predictable, dry and dusty!
It's also
fun!
As a campaign fundraiser, you can buy one of just 5 'Voices in the
Air'
memorabilia sets. Exclusive to us, you get the rare and out-of-print
classic
New Zealand broadcasting history book of the same name, plus the
1920's
Emerging Years Stamp Set - including the Anniversary of Radio issue!
It's a
great price at just US$69.95 delivered anywhere in the world, and
with just 5
sets available, help us fundraise by ordering yours today at
www.radioheritage.net. A great addition to your personal library!
Australian News
In Australia, a new book 'Changing Stations: The Story of Australian
Commercial
Radio' is being prepared by Dr Bridget Griffen-Foley of Macquarie
University.
It's due for release in 2008, and Bridget has kindly agreed to share
some
inside stories about stations and personalities in a new series that
begins
appearing at www.radioheritage.net shortly. Community singing was
popular in
the 1920's and we've added an item from the Australian Broadcasting
Company
songbook in our Long Lost Radio Images series...along with items from
JORK
Kochi, 1YA Auckland and 3FB in Victoria.
Radio Guides Updated
The very popular Pacific Radio Guide Series have been
updated....Bruce
Portzer's latest Pacific Asian Log Mediumwave is now on-line, and the
Shortwave
version is due in November. We've also been busy updating the New
Zealand and
Pacific listings as Pacific Co-ordinator for the famous World Radio
TV Handbook
that's due out shortly [more about how to buy your copy at great
savings later]
and the New Zealand LPFM Guide is currently being updated from the
many
responses we've had from station owners. There are many thousands of
stations
in all these guides, and they're all free to access at
www.radioheritage.net.
So, check them out today!
Pacific Radio
Pacific Radio Today is a new commentary based on a RNZI documentary.
Most
stations in the Pacific broadcast in very difficult conditions, some
are
falling silent, others struggling to stay on air. For the reasons
why, read
this item at www.radioheritage.net today. On the bright side, a new
shortwave
station is planned for Pohnpei in Micronesia, and we've got some
great pictures
to share with you as the owners convert a shipping container into a
state-of-
the-art broadcasting studio in the tropics. Check out 'PMA Pohnpei'
coming soon
to the website!
Vintage Radio
The Vintage Radio Gallery is proving incredibly popular, and it's all
about a
20 year old print ad from the old Macquarie Radio Network! The ad
agency took
photos of 1930's Australian radio sets, made a campaign slogan out of
them, and
you can enjoy them at www.radioheritage.net. Very unusual!
'pirate' Radio Hauraki 40th
The Radio Hauraki 40th Anniversary is in full swing with the tour a
resounding
success, the exhibition opening in two weeks time, the original Good
Guys
limbering up to return for a live broadcast on todays Radio
Hauraki..and some
never to be repeated memorabilia offers...all at
www.radioheritage.net...just
check out the Hauraki pages. It's all there, reunion party details,
leave your
memories on-line, ask questions, get answers...and get your

quick!
The Radio Hauraki Memorabilia Set contains the expanded version of
Adrian
Blackburn's classic and rare 'Shoestring Pirates' book, plus David
Miller's

Neha Dhupia wishes you a Happy Diwali
Former Miss India and sexy Bollywood Star Neha Dhupia sends Diwali
Greetings to
all our readers after her recent visit to New Zealand sponsored by
Radio Tarana
1386 AM in Auckland. Check out the very attractive Diwali card from
Radio
Tarana 'No.1 in Indian Radio' today at www.radioheritage.net, and
remember to
also read our story about the early history of radio in India as
well. Our AFRS
China-Burma-India story details the extensive AFRS network throughout
India in
1944-1945! Again, who said radio history has to be dull and
unattractive!
