Smoky indeed.

During latter high school years, radio club high atop College Hill, 
Providence, RI, a beehive of critical comm's hacktivity. Doc's SX-62 daily aired 8972U 
ASW & 6761U SAC comms. This was still The Cold War. When not keeping vigilant 
HF watch, '62 dx'ed exotic FM's, primarily WBRU. Captain Beefheart a regular 
performer via miracle of vinyl acetate discs.

Depending upon alert status, '62 or Zenith 500 upon occaision locked onto 630 
WPRO for comms designated 'Hot Pants 1&2', message sender, 'James Brown'.

Fire bottles performed admirably under constant duress and tight security. 
Solid state? Radio Club had capability, but only as backup. Unreliable.
