Re: [IRCA] TP DX 10/9/06

Interesting how reception varies from place to place. In spite of
being up late last night I dragged myself out of bed this am, and am
sure glad I did. (Luckily today's a holiday for us Canadians, it being
our Thanksgiving.) No DU stuff noted here, but lots of TPs, with
carriers on nearly every channel. Heard audio from China on 945 and 981
for the first time. 945 was really strong at times. Also heard China
on 1044 and 1206. After never hearing it, it's suddenly becoming
almost common! Also heard audio on 648 from Vladivostok for the first
time, and it too was quite strong at times. Although LW Russians are
common, that's my first TP reception of Russia on MW. (I have heard it
via the TA route previously). I think the mornings's highlight though
was 780 KNOM, as Alaskans are even rarer here than Asians. I checked
there, as Id noted something under KKOH on the truck radio on the way
out to the acreage. Didn't get a call ID, but did catch a man saying
"43 degrees in Nome" between programs. Of course there's always one
that gets away, and today was no exception. Was hearing what was likely
KICY mixing with KOA on 850, and awaiting the ID at 1400 but no such
luck as CKBA switched to day pattern right at 1400 and completely buried
both KOA and any possible KICY. Heard bits of religion on 1110 also
so was hoping for KAGV, but too much KFAB off the back end. Still, KNOM
is only Alaskan #5 for me, so I'm happy with that.
