Kevin,
Is it necessary to "exercise" a lead-acid battery, and if so how far, i.e., down to what terminal voltage should I discharge it?

"Before I get to the auto battery, don't buy NiCds. They are not half as good
as NiMH batteries. If you are going to spend the money, go that way."
Auto battery...

"NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, run a lead-acid battery all the way down
unless you like buying lead acid batteries and they are NOT cheap. If you
run down a lead acid battery the lead sponge will degrade very quickly."
"Also, don't leave your battery to sit a long time without a charge or
discharge. They will die fast that way as well."
"Charge it every week and you should have a long lived battery.
Kevin"
