Re: [IRCA] New Western Catch

Hi all, many years ago, in the nineties, there was a station from
Ciudad Juarez at 1010 that had a double harmonic at 2020
and many people could get them on short wave, and wonder what their
call sign was, seeing that I saw the reference to the station at 1000,
and wonder if that station moved or not. I also heard they played all
English music, and I wonder if there are other stations on A M in
Mexico that play all English music with Spanish announcements? There
is a station from Mexicali, called zona on fm at 98.3, but they use to
be on 820, but was sold in 2004, and I haven't had any luck hearing x e
p n k from Los Mochis, in the state of Sinaloa on 880 with 10,000
watts, that had, last I knew an hour of oldies from 7 to 8 pm pacific
time, called super oldies, with extremely limited variety, and it use
to be, that I could regularly get it from here in Oakland, but maybe
they'll show up after October.

Barry,

I got a clear ID night before last from XEFV/1000 in Juarez. I've
had XEEP in the past, but good IDs from south of the border are always
gladly accepted. I haven't checked tonight yet, but KRCN was in strong
on the west coast both Sunday and Monday night until around 11 or so.
I usually hear Calgary and Phoenix on 1060, so KRCN stuck out pretty
well. They may have been in later too, but I was spending time sending
out resumes.

While you westerners were feasting on CKDO-1580, I came up with a
nice catch
in the opposite direction. Last night, while casting about for a
frequency
to record on overnight, I noticed some oldies (e.g., Billy Joel) on
1060
under KYW. So, I got a semi-null on KYW and let 'er run. Reviewing the
recordings today, I found the Mexican anthem and SS talk shortly after
0100
EDT - XEEP, no doubt, the most common Mexican here. Dunno if they were
one
playing the oldies earlier, but they do tend to have some unusual
programming. Nothing of interest for the next few hours, but coming up
to
0500, the big surprise: a clear multi-station ID for the Radio Colorado

network. KRCN! They hadn't been on my radar screen at all. They popped
up
again at 0600. Only CO #5 here. Seems likely they were on day power at,
um,
0300 local time... hmm. Anyway, a welcome addition to the log!
